Position Overview
The Maintenance Mechanic Technician performs preventive maintenance, repairs, and equipment installations on production, processing, packaging, and utility systems throughout the facility. This role supports mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems and covers scheduled PMs, breakdown troubleshooting, equipment inspections, and general facility maintenance.
What You'll Do
Equipment Maintenance and Repairs
- Inspect, troubleshoot, and repair production, packaging, and processing equipment
- Perform scheduled and unscheduled preventive maintenance
- Conduct equipment inspections and complete required documentation
- Install, set up, and adapt new machinery, including electrical, mechanical, layout, and computer considerations
- Perform lockout/tagout consistently and correctly
- Read and interpret manuals, schematics, and equipment diagrams
- Perform mechanical and electrical repairs, including vacuum issues and root-cause troubleshooting
- Perform fabrication, welding, or machining when needed (TIG/MIG is a plus)
- Support and maintain utility systems, including steam, air, cooling, and power
Operational and Facility Support
- Complete work orders using the maintenance software system (Mpulse)
- Document all work performed, including parts usage and corrective actions
- Conduct general facility maintenance such as unclogging drains, fixing hoses, and changing light bulbs
- Provide on-call and emergency breakdown support when required
- Maintain a safe, clean, and organized work environment
- Review manuals and reference literature to stay current on equipment updates
Safety and Communication
- Follow all safety and health policies, including LOTO
- Report unsafe conditions immediately
- Consult with supervisors regarding unusual problems or equipment concerns
- Communicate clearly with technicians, supervisors, and production teams
- Support continuous improvement and long-term equipment reliability
Schedule
- 2nd Shift: 10:00 AM to 7:30 PM
- Pay is competitive and based on experience
Qualifications
Required
- High school diploma or GED
- Mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic knowledge
- Ability to read and interpret manuals, schematics, and diagrams
- Experience performing preventive maintenance and troubleshooting
- Ability to safely use hand tools and power tools
- Basic computer and math skills
- Ability to work around hazardous materials and heavy machinery
- Ability to use maintenance software (Mpulse experience preferred)
Preferred
- Experience in manufacturing or food processing
- TIG/MIG welding or machining experience
- Understanding of HACCP, SOPs, and GMPs
- Experience operating within a CMMS system
- Ability to diagnose and repair 480V electrical systems
Physical Requirements
- Extensive walking and standing throughout the shift
- Ability to climb, bend, kneel, crouch, stoop, and reach
- Lift up to 50 lbs unassisted
- Grip and wrist strength required for tool use
- Ability to work at heights
- Ability to identify and distinguish colors
- Use of smell to diagnose equipment issues when applicable
Working Conditions
- Wet, humid plant environment with temperature changes from hot to cold
- Fast-paced setting around heavy processing equipment
- Indoor and outdoor work as needed
- Minimal supervision
